Broadband stimuls project starts in Georgia

Windstream announces that it has started the construction of the broadband stimulus project in Georgia, United States. Windstream has got US$181.3 million for broadband deployment projects in thirteen states. The grants will be 75 percent of the projeect cost and the remaining 25 percent will be invested by Windstream.

Fiber optic cables will be laid to bring broadband services in Georgia and Windstream will invest US$5.6 million as its share. The fiber optic broadband will provide high speed internet and faster communication services to the residents and business houses. Windstream is based in Little Rock, Ark and is a provider of IP based voice and data services, MPLS networking, data center and managed hosting services, communication systems to businesses & government agencies, broadband, digital phone and HD-TV services to residential subscribers.

A1 Telecom offers FTTC broadband in Austria

In Austria, in the town of Obertun-am-See, the telecom operator A1 Telekom has deployed FTTC technology by laying 17 kilometers of fiber optic cables. These fiber optic cables connect 1400 houses in the town. A1 Telekom is the leading telecom operator in Austria. Telekom Austria and Mobilkom Austria merged in 2010 to form A1 Telekom. A1 provides Gigaspeed 30 or Gigaspeed 16 through the FTTC technology. In FTTC technology, the optical fiber goes to the curb from the central office. Copper cables will be distributed to the houses from the curb to provide high speed broadband. In this case, the last mile is not optical fiber as in the case of FTTH.

Climax Telephone offers Fiber to the premise broadband

Today we could read that Inexio has finished the Fiber to the home network construction in the county of Kusel in Rheinland-Pfalz in Germany. Inexio is a network operator in Germany engaged in the deployment of FTTH networks.

Blagoveshchensk Airport will now be connected with FTTH based high speed fiber optic broadband services. Russian telecom operator MTS launched fixed broadband services to the airport. The high speed broadband which currently offers 2 Mbps can be upgrade to 100 Mbps when required in the future.

MTS has installed a new fiber optic cable to the airport building to deliver faster broadband connection. The length of the fiber optic cable is approximately 850 meters. India aims at 160 million broadband connections by 2014

Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) had already submitted their recommendatins to achieve the aim of 160 million broadband subscribers in India. The ministry of communications received plans from Department of Telecommunications to implement the project to deploy nationwide fiber optic cable network in order to facilitate the high speed broadband connectivity.

BSNL will be the nodal agency responsible for execution of the project. It is estimated that around 500,000 km of fiber optic cables will be required in the next three years in India only for this project. The total estimated cost of the network will be 20,000 crores of Indian rupees equivalent to approximate US dollar 4.5 billion. With the execution of the broadband project, India aims to achieve considerable boost in its GDP. Broadband is the key to the growth for the next generation. High speed broadband will provide more opportunities to the growing Indian economy. Indian Government draws out plans to achieve this target which will have major impact on Indian economy.
